Cd-ROM Not working CD-RW Working
Hey Guys...
I have an Xp-SP2 professional fully updated PC 2.4 Gig, 256 MB RAM Yesterday i bought an LG CD-RW to append to my computer which had an existing Benq CD-ROM, the CD-ROm was working fine before.... but now the problem is that only the CD-RW is working and CD-ROM is not working. There is power going to the CD-ROm, but when i click the icon i get the message "please Inser disk into drive G" i have doen everything i could think of ... like... i swapped the IDE Channels in all combinations with the hard disk and then i even tried jumbling the two CD's on single IDE making one salve and the other master but to no use... i hope you guys can help me on this... CD-ROM : ATAPI-CD ROM-DRIVE-52MAX CD-RW : HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8527B |

This is possibly a case of not setting the jumpers correctly.
If you disconnect the new drive , does the old one work. If it's yes then it could well be what I've suggested. Other than that you could try going into the device manager & uninstalling the IDE controllers, then reboot & let windows install them again. |

i have the same problem with my cd drive and i think i know what the problem is:
i checked the voltage on the case power supply and it was a bit higher than the cd-rom would allow. so i figure that the voltage was too high for the cd-rom. it was working before so i think it kind of fried. im gonna have to buy a new one now, if you're gonna do the same, check the power output on your case power supply and the power input on the cd-rom. or just get a whole new power supply, since the new ones are more tolerant with the whole voltage issue... |

------------------------------------------------------------------------ Just keep trying different combinations m8 until it works. Look for a previous post regarding filters in the Registry as this may have some bearing on the matter. |
