CDROM disappeared within XP
XP Pro CDROM disappeared this weekend. I have tried the MSFT knowledgebast solution of deleting the upper and lower filters. No luck. Prior to reloading the OS does someone else have any suggestions?

Does the device show up in your device manager, perhaps with an error indicator next to it?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
The CDROM has the yellow! in the Device Manager. I tried to remove the device and rescan. No luck.
I located KB 314060 article in the Microsoft KB. This did not work.
The system is a laptop so their are no cables to deal with. I removed the internal CD and connected a USB CDROM last night and had the same error. I suspect a registry issue at this point. I was hoping not to have to reload XP. The system has some applications that I no longer have the CD for so reloading is my last option.
Again Thank you!
Greg
